George Gamal, an esteemed Egyptian baritone born in Cairo, began his musical journey as an oriental singer in his local church. While in his second year of law school, he auditioned for the Fabrica Academy, where he embarked on formal vocal training under the tutelage of Dr. Raaof Zidan and later Dr. Neveen Allouba. In 2017, after participating in a masterclass at the Cairo Opera House, he was awarded a scholarship to study in Finland with the distinguished Professor Konrad Jarnot.
This opportunity led to an offer to pursue a bachelor's degree with Professor Jarnot at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf, from which he graduated in 2023. George is currently advancing his studies with a master's degree.
George's repertoire is notably diverse, encompassing German Lieder, opera, oratorio, and musical theatre. In his debut year, he performed in Don Carlo at the Düsseldorf Opera House and participated in productions of My Fair Lady and Madama Butterfly at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf.
Recent career highlights include his debut at the Cairo Opera House in the role of Tonio in Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, conducted by the renowned Maestro Nader Abbassi, his premiere in the opera Widukind as the warrior Abbio, and his portrayal of Javert in Les Misérables. The 2024 season saw George debut at the Krefeld Opera House as Antonio in Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims, a return to the Düsseldorf Opera House for Verdi’s Don Carlo, and his role as Peter in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, as well as participating in Robert Schumann lieder Fest.
George continues working with Professor Konrad Jarnot and has had distinguished professors and coaches, such as Dr. Neveen Allouba, Dr. Ashraf Sewailam, who have strongly influenced his musical development and helped him with the musical interpretation.
George has been awarded a full scholarship for his bachelor's program by the Sawiris Foundation and, in April 2024, won the 3rd prize at the Rometsch Competition in Düsseldorf, Germany.
